  • From West: I-10 E to Ext 177, exit right off ramp.
  • From East: I-10 W to Ext 177, exit left off ramp.
  • Second left into Lamar Dixon Equestrian Center.
  • Ask for volunteer registration area.

Volunteer Information
The lease between Humane Society of U.S. (HSUS) and Lamar Dixon Expo Center ends 10/15. After that, the rescue effort led by Jane Garrison, Pia Salk and David Meyer will continue elsewhere. Look for updates.

  1. Come to Lamar Dixon until 10/15/05.
  2. Report to Pia Salk at Prowler trailer b/t barns 1, 2.
  3. Bring with you:
    • Self-contained lodging (vehicle, tent, etc.)
    • Large aluminum pans to leave water for animals
    • Thick bite-proof work gloves
    • Sturdy, waterproof work boots/shoes
    • Utility knife
Needed In New Orleans
  • People whose skills enhance entire operation.
  • Must be able to follow assigned duties.
  • Search and rescue.
  • Animal care/transport, retrieve supplies.
  • Database management.
  • Can stay at least 3 days, preferably 1 week.

Primary Mission Now  ~  Continuing work from a database of requests to save animals at known addresses. Also go to homes where food and water were left. If an animal's caretakers have not returned, rescue the animal.

Volunteer Information
Data entry volunteers work from home as needed. If available when called, great! Databases are updated for animals found, missing or deceased so rescuers don't waste time searching same addresses. Data entered at dogdetective.com.

Current Foster/Adopt Situation

Rescues go to the Best Friends site in Tylertown, MS. Holding facility may change. For now, individuals or 501c3 rescue groups must follow Best Friends foster/adopt policy.
