BC WOLVES ARE UNDER ATTACK — YOU ARE THEIR VOICE
In British Columbia a no-quota, all-year wolf hunt has begun. It overlaps whelping season as females nurse pups. Baiting is permitted. The
government will go to any length to
appease livestock interests — even though wolves statistically account for a marginal loss of farmed animals. In the same region, an
experiment is
underway to sterilize and kill wolves so hunters have more caribou and elk to shoot. BC wolves are under attack, just like western gray wolves in the U.S.
WHAT YOU CAN DO
Ask the BC government to retool their violent wolf plan with nonlethal strategies to: Preserve wolf habitat; stop wolf hunting/trapping; replace
killing and sterilization with site-specific humane programs; and fund
education drives to decrease human-wolf conflicts.

Dear Honourable Officials of the Province of British Columbia:
I join citizens worldwide to oppose hunting rules that permit unlimited killing of wolves in British Columbia. Revised regulations allow year-round
hunting and trapping with no bag limit, even in whelping season as females nurse pups.
To appease livestock interests, the provincial government has declared wholesale slaughter on wolves — even though wolves statistically
account for a marginal loss of farmed animals each year. Wolves are also sterilized and killed to superficially boost caribou and elk populations for
hunters. This irresponsible plan shows little regard for long-term biological repercussions. Wolves are key to thriving ecosystems. Wiping them
out offsets natural cycles and fails to resolves human-predator conflicts.
I urge officials to pursue site-specific incentives that inspire farmers to better safeguard their animals: Fencing systems, guardian-dog grant
initiatives, surveillance shepherds or range riders, carcass removal, damage compensation, etc.
Please prioritize funding for education about livestock-wildlife deterrents and humane agricultural practices. A reduced budget for the Predator
Prevention and Compensation Program has prompted ranchers to exaggerate wolf problems and mitigate them on their own.
I also respectfully ask that the Wolf Sterilization and Removal Experiment (to accelerate caribou and elk numbers) be terminated.
Open season on wolves is ethically indefensible. In fact, I will steer my tourism dollars away from British Columbia until lethal tactics and
sterilization are replaced with humane and sustainable policies. I look forward to your feedback.
Sincerely,
